A splice that keeps the original
The picture shows a full 12-inch by 12-inch oak beam splice we completed at Hardwick Old Hall, an English Heritage site. The beam was no longer structural, so rather than fully replacing it, we carefully retained as much of the original timber as possible, while demonstrating what the new section would have looked like.
Using precise timber splices, we were able to showcase the repair without disturbing the historic fabric of the beam, preserving the original while ensuring clarity for future conservation work.
